WHITEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MN — The tight-knit communities of Lake Lillian and Willmar are reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 54-year-old Tim Cayler, who was fatally struck while riding his bicycle on the evening of Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The accident occurred in Whitefield Township, Kandiyohi County, and has left family, friends, and neighbors mourning a man remembered for his kindness, faith, and deep community ties.
A Tragic Collision
According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal incident took place around 7:37 p.m. on 120th Avenue SE, just east of 15th Street SE. Cayler was traveling eastbound on his bicycle when a 2013 Chrysler minivan, also heading east and driven by a 59-year-old Lake Lillian woman, attempted to pass him by moving into the westbound lane. During this maneuver, Cayler also entered the westbound lane and was struck by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Blomkest Fire Department, Blomkest First Responders, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene. The crash remains under active investigation.
