David Hitchman Arrestedtt for Landscaping Scam in Loomis

UPDATE. – David Hitchman, 34, has been arrested in connection with a fraudulent landscaping scheme that targeted residents in Loomis, California. The arrest follows a detailed investigation by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office after multiple victims reported being scammed out of money by a man posing as a contractor.

Initial Report Leads to Investigation

The investigation began on May 18, 2025, when deputies responded to a fraud complaint at a home on South Walnut Street. The homeowner reported that she had hired a landscaper who identified himself only as “Austin” and had paid him a deposit on May 2. However, after taking the money, the supposed contractor never returned to begin the work and ceased all communication.

“Austin” Identified as David Hitchman

Detectives soon uncovered that the man operating under the alias “Austin” was actually David Hitchman. At the time of the incident, Hitchman was on active probation and wearing a court-ordered GPS ankle monitor. Location data confirmed that Hitchman had been at the victim’s property on the day the deposit was paid—further evidence tying him directly to the scam.

Arrest and Charges

On June 26, authorities arrested David Hitchman, who has since been booked into jail on four criminal charges, including:

  • Theft by False Pretenses
  • Violation of Probation
  • Fraudulent Business Practices
  • False Representation to Obtain Funds

Investigators believe Hitchman used his false identity to target additional victims in the area, collecting deposits for landscaping services he had no intention of completing.

More Victims Come Forward

Following Hitchman’s arrest, more residents have stepped forward to report similar experiences. Each involved a man using the name “Austin,” offering landscaping services, taking money upfront, and then disappearing without performing any work.

“David Hitchman has shown a pattern of deception in our community,” said a spokesperson from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. “We believe there may be more victims and we are committed to bringing them justice.”

Ongoing Investigation – Public Assistance Needed

The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who may have been victimized by David Hitchman or by someone using the name “Austin” to contact investigators immediately. Even small details can aid the ongoing investigation.

  • Use reputable review platforms to research service providers

David Hitchman’s arrest marks a critical step in protecting Loomis residents from fraudulent service providers. As the investigation expands, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office remains focused on uncovering the full extent of Hitchman’s activities and ensuring that all victims receive the justice they deserve.
