AUGUSTA, Ga. – A tragic act of violence unfolded on Sunday night in Augusta, Georgia, leaving one man dead and authorities now searching for a person of interest in connection with the case.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking Wendarius Harris, 23, for questioning related to a deadly shooting that took place at the intersection of Riverfront Drive and Prep Phillips Drive, near the Augusta Boathouse. The incident occurred on the 100 block of Riverfront Drive and was reported at around 9:15 p.m.

Zyshawn Franklin, a 26-year-old Augusta resident, was the victim of the fatal shooting. According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, Franklin was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene. The precise circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation.

Law enforcement officials have not yet named Harris as a suspect, but say he is a person of interest and is wanted for questioning in connection with the murder. Deputies believe Harris may have information critical to solving the case and are urging the public to assist in locating him.

Harris is described as being 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent the East Boundary area of Augusta as well as Batesburg, South Carolina.

As the community reels from this tragic loss, authorities are working diligently to gather evidence, speak with witnesses, and determine the motive behind the fatal encounter. Law enforcement presence has been increased in the Riverfront Drive area as the investigation continues.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who sees Wendarius Harris or has information about his whereabouts contact them immediately. All tips can be made anonymously.

This marks yet another devastating incident in Augusta’s ongoing battle with gun violence, underscoring the urgent need for community awareness and cooperation in helping law enforcement bring those responsible to justice.

Residents are reminded that any piece of information, no matter how small, could be the key to solving this case and bringing closure to the family of Zyshawn Franklin, who is now left to mourn the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
