SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA — A potentially deadly confrontation in broad daylight was swiftly contained yesterday thanks to the quick response of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Central Patrol Deputies. Authorities arrested 30-year-old Nathaniel Larry after he allegedly opened fire on two individuals during a heated dispute at an apartment complex near 47th Street and 47th Avenue.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they were able to confirm that, miraculously, no one had been injured in the shooting. Witnesses and victims at the scene informed deputies that the incident began as a verbal altercation between Nathaniel Larry and two other adults who live at the complex.
According to investigators, as the argument escalated, Larry left the scene briefly, retrieved a firearm, and fired toward the victims as they attempted to walk away. The shots were fired in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood, putting not only the intended victims but also other residents, including children, at serious risk.
Deputies quickly launched a search of the area and soon located Nathaniel Larry on foot near Congress Street, not far from Milford Town Park. He was taken into custody without incident.
In the hours following the arrest, deputies secured and executed a search warrant for Larry’s residence at the apartment complex. Inside, they recovered the firearm used in the shooting, which has been taken into evidence as the investigation continues.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Nathaniel Larry was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is currently being held on a $150,000 bail. He faces multiple serious felony charges, including:
- Assault with a deadly weapon (firearm)
- Illegal discharge of a firearm
- Reckless endangerment
- Possible additional weapons violations pending background review
Larry is scheduled to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court on July 1, 2026.
Public and Law Enforcement Response
While no injuries were reported, the nature of the incident — a shooting in the middle of a populated residential area during daylight — has left many residents shaken.
“It’s horrifying to think someone would just pull a gun and start shooting where families live,” said one concerned neighbor. “We’re thankful no one was hurt, but this could’ve been so much worse.”
Sheriff’s officials praised the swift action of deputies and the cooperation of witnesses in ensuring Nathaniel Larry was apprehended quickly and safely. They continue to urge anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
This remains an active investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.
