Explosives Discovered at Silver Springs Property – Ongoing Public Safety Operation
Silver Springs, Nevada — A quiet afternoon in the Silver Springs community turned into a scene of intense law enforcement activity on Wednesday, June 11, after a local resident reported a disturbing discovery at a newly acquired property.
At approximately 1:10 PM, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a concerned citizen who had just taken possession of a property in the 4400 block of West Fir Avenue. While inspecting the outbuildings on the premises, the resident came upon what appeared to be sticks of dynamite — prompting immediate concern and swift action.
Deputies from Central Command, supported by personnel from the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, quickly arrived on scene. After a cautious initial inspection, officials confirmed the presence of multiple sticks of dynamite stored within one of the outbuildings. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure public safety, the area was immediately secured and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team from Naval Air Station Fallon was called in to provide expert support.
As the EOD Team began their meticulous assessment, they uncovered additional hazardous materials on the property, compounding the gravity of the situation. While the nature and extent of these items have not been fully disclosed to the public, officials stress that this remains a serious and active investigation.
Public Safety Advisory:
Authorities have closed off the vicinity surrounding West Fir Avenue and Mulberry Street, urging all residents to steer clear of the area. Barricades have been erected and emergency crews remain on standby as the scene is stabilized and the investigation continues.
“This is a highly dynamic incident, and our top priority is the safety of the community,” said Jeffrey S. Miller, Central Commander of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. “We are grateful to our partners at Naval Air Station Fallon and the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District for their swift coordination and professionalism. We ask for continued cooperation and patience from residents as we work to ensure this area is safe.”
As of this release, there have been no reported injuries, and law enforcement is actively investigating how the explosives came to be on the property and for what potential purpose.
Further information will be shared as it becomes available, and updates will be posted through the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office official communication channels.
