Posted on May 4, 2025 by Usainsightreport

Milwaukee, WI – Tragedy struck on Thursday, May 2, near the intersection of 76th Street and Brown Deer Road, when a double shooting left one teenager dead and another critically wounded. The family has now identified the 14-year-old victim as Maurice Whiters, a freshman at Bay View High School known for his talents on both the basketball court and football field.

Maurice was described by loved ones as an energetic, passionate young man who dreamed of one day playing sports professionally. His coaches at Bay View High praised his discipline, humility, and leadership potential, while classmates recall a generous spirit who often went out of his way to uplift others. His untimely death has left a deep wound in the school community and among those who knew and loved him.

According to Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 8:00 PM on May 2. Upon arrival, they discovered two teenage victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Maurice was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim—a 16-year-old boy—was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the surviving teen, citing privacy concerns and the ongoing nature of the investigation. No information has been disclosed regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, potential suspects, or a motive. As of now, no arrests have been confirmed.

Be Updated has reached out to MPD for comment regarding the condition of the 16-year-old and to inquire whether any suspects have been taken into custody. As of this report, we have not received a response.

In the wake of Maurice’s death, grief counselors have been made available at Bay View High School to support students and staff as they process the loss. A candlelight vigil is being planned by friends and family to honor Maurice’s memory and to call for an end to the cycle of gun violence that continues to claim young lives in Milwaukee.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Milwaukee Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

This heartbreaking incident serves as yet another painful reminder of the urgent need for community-driven solutions to address youth violence and to provide safer environments where children like Maurice can thrive. His life, filled with promise and purpose, was cut far too short—but those who loved him vow that his memory will not be forgotten.
