Fatal Shooting at East Lake Park Prompts Birmingham Police Homicide Investigation

Posted on July 18, 2025 by Usainsightreport

A 23-year-old man was killed and another person injured in a shooting at East Lake Park in Birmingham, Alabama, late Wednesday night, July 16, 2025, leading to an ongoing homicide investigation by the Birmingham Police Department.

East Precinct officers responded to the park, located in the 100 block of 84th Street North, just after 11:30 p.m. following an alert from the city’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system, which detected approximately 10 rounds fired. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead at 12:01 a.m.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cameron Demijah Little, a 23-year-old Birmingham resident. Little was a devoted preacher, gospel artist, and songwriter who had recently joined Victorious Army – Atlanta (VBTVA). Known for his deep faith and passion for Jesus Christ, Cameron used his musical talents to inspire and uplift others. Though his time with VBTVA was brief, he was already making a significant impact through his ministry and music.

A second individual was injured in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. The Birmingham Police Department’s preliminary investigation suggests that a group of men and women had gathered in the park prior to the incident. An altercation, the details of which remain unclear, escalated into gunfire. Authorities are still determining whether multiple shooters were involved.

As of Friday, July 18, 2025, no arrests have been made. Birmingham Police detectives are actively interviewing witnesses and analyzing evidence to piece together the circumstances of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and the police are seeking public assistance to identify those responsible.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Division directly at 205-254-1764. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777, where tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
