Fatal Shooting on Cathedral Drive: Baton Rouge Police Investigate Robbery Attempt

Baton Rouge Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday evening, July 22, 2025, in what authorities suspect was an attempted robbery.

The victim, 22-year-old Melique Etienne, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the 3700 block of Cathedral Drive, near Wyandotte Street, around 6:30 p.m. Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted to provide aid, but Etienne succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), preliminary investigations suggest that Etienne was shot during an attempted robbery. BRPD Chief T.J. Morse reported that the victim was wearing a black ski mask and was armed with a gun at the time of the incident. Several individuals were detained at the scene in connection with the shooting, though no formal arrests have been made as of Wednesday, July 23, 2025. The investigation remains active as police continue to gather evidence and explore the circumstances surrounding the event.
