SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — The close of day on Sunday turned tragic along Interstate 95 when a Florence County woman lost her life in a single-vehicle crash, according to Sumter County officials.
At approximately 6 p.m. on October 12, authorities responded to a wreck between mile markers 141 and 146 on I-95 North. Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker identified the victim as 49-year-old Felicia Williams Sims, who died at the scene from injuries she sustained as a passenger. Despite efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead on site.

Investigators say the vehicle veered off the roadway for reasons yet undetermined. Whether a mechanical issue, driver error, or external factor contributed is under review. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office, alongside the South Carolina Highway Patrol, is actively investigating.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where pathologists will seek to clarify the exact cause of her death.
For those who knew her, Sims will be remembered as a warm, caring presence whose light touched many lives. Family, friends, and community members continue to mourn, sharing stories of her kindness, laughter, and the comfort she offered to others.
While no further details (such as driver identity, road conditions, or contributing factors) have yet been confirmed publicly, officials have urged anyone with information to come forward. In the meantime, the community remains in quiet grief, holding on to memories of a woman taken far too soon.
