Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on I-45 Feeder Road
TEXAS CITY, TX – June 21, 2025 — A tragic early morning incident has prompted an active investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office following a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred on the northbound feeder road of Interstate 45 near the 400 block of Gulf Freeway in Texas City.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., an off-duty officer with the Galveston Police Department made a heartbreaking discovery—the lifeless body of a 36-year-old white male, lying along the feeder road. The vehicle responsible for the crash had already fled the scene, leaving behind no immediate trace of the driver or involved vehicle.
Deputies with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area and immediately secured the scene. The investigation was swiftly taken over by a coordinated effort between the Sheriff’s Crash Team, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit. These specialized divisions are trained to handle complex traffic fatalities and hit-and-run cases with the utmost precision.
As detectives combed through evidence and canvassed the area, they developed leads that pointed them toward a nearby location. Their investigation led them to the Super 8 Motel in La Marque, just a short distance from the crash site. There, officers discovered a vehicle matching the description and showing visible damage consistent with a recent collision—damage investigators believe aligns with the nature of the pedestrian strike.
Two individuals were found at the motel and were interviewed by detectives as persons of interest in connection to the incident. Authorities have not yet confirmed the role of these individuals, and no arrests have been made at this time. However, officials say charges are pending as the investigation continues to unfold.
The identity of the deceased has not been released to the public, as notification of next of kin is still underway. Out of respect for the victim and their family, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has withheld personal information pending formal identification.
This fatal hit-and-run has raised alarm in the community, as residents express concern over the rise in pedestrian-involved collisions—particularly those in which the driver flees the scene. The Sheriff’s Office has emphasized its commitment to justice in this case and is urging anyone with relevant information to step forward.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and we are pursuing all leads,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson stated. “We ask the public to remain vigilant and help us bring closure to the victim’s family.”
