Seven dogs were found inside the home where the two individuals died after the fatal attack.
A 4-year-old girl is dead following a “dog attack” that took place after a 53-year-old woman in the same home “suffered a medical emergency,” authorities said.
The Huntingburg Police Department in Indiana responded to a residence on Monday, April 14, when they found the pair “unresponsive” and performed “life-saving measures” on them.
The child, identified by police as Evelynn Lopez, was “immediately transported” to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The older woman, who police identified as Oliva Mora Regalado, was pronounced dead at the home, according to authorities, who did not reveal how the pair were related.
Following an investigation, and by looking at completed autopsy reports on the bodies, police determined that Regalado “suffered a medical emergency that occurred from a preexisting medical condition” while inside the house.
“After this occurred, and for unknown reasons, police believe that dog(s) inside the residence then attacked Evelynn, who was the only other person inside the residence,” authorities added in their social media statement.
