The charges stem from a horrific incident on July 11, 2025, when LaGrange Police Department officers responded to reports of a person being attacked by two large dogs near the intersection of Swanson Street and Juniper Street. Upon arrival, officers found 60-year-old Theresa Patterson being viciously mauled in the roadway by an XL Bully and a Cane Corso. Police intervened, stopping the attack and providing emergency medical aid until paramedics from AMR arrived. Despite their efforts, Patterson was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The attack, which occurred around 11:11 a.m., has left the LaGrange community reeling, sparking outrage and renewed discussions about responsible pet ownership and public safety. One of the dogs, the XL Bully, continued its attack after police arrived and was shot and killed by officers at the scene. The Cane Corso fled but was later located and taken to the LaGrange Animal Shelter.
