A Tuesday morning commute turned tragic north of San Angelo when 56-year-old Tracy Danielle Daigle of Grape Creek lost her life in a four-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 87 and March Road, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS).
The sequence of events unfolded around 7:57 a.m., when Daigle was driving a 2014 Ford Focus southbound on March Road toward U.S. 87. TxDPS reports she failed to stop at the posted stop sign and pulled into the highway’s inside westbound lane where a 2016 Ford Fusion struck her vehicle. The force of the crash caused a left-rear tire from the Ford Focus to detach and roll into the path of a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox traveling westbound in the adjacent outside lane. The Equinox collided with the tire, and a 1992 Toyota pickup trailing behind was unable to avoid the chaos and rear-ended the Equinox.
Unfortunately, Daigle was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Susan Werner. At the time of impact, she was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS. The driver of the Ford Fusion—a 33-year-old man from Carlsbad—sustained only minor injuries, while the drivers of the Chevrolet and Toyota—two women from San Angelo, ages 24 and 23 respectively—emerged uninjured.
TxDPS confirmed that weather conditions were clear and roads dry at the time of the crash, leaving no environmental factors blamed as causes. The investigation is ongoing, as authorities piece together how exactly the chain-reaction collision unfolded and whether further contributing factors played a role.
