HADDAM-KILLINGWORTH, CT — Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of Beloved Cheerleader and Coach Leeha Reddy

Posted on May 7, 2025 by Usainsightreport

The Haddam-Killingworth Youth Football and Cheerleading Association (HKYFA), along with the greater Connecticut community, is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Leeha Reddy — a vibrant and inspiring young woman whose presence touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Leeha, a dedicated cheerleader, uplifting coach, and passionate student at the University of Connecticut, passed away suddenly, leaving a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and teammates.

Leeha’s life was defined by her passion, dedication, and unwavering kindness. From a young age, she was involved with HKYFA, first as a spirited cheerleader who brought energy and enthusiasm to the sidelines, and later as a mentor and coach who guided young athletes with grace, patience, and love. Her transition from participant to leader within the organization reflected her commitment not only to the sport but to the next generation of cheerleaders she inspired.

As a coach, Leeha was known for her warmth and her ability to connect deeply with her team. She believed in lifting others up, encouraging her athletes not just to improve their technique, but to believe in themselves — both on and off the field. Her fellow coaches speak of her as someone who brought joy and optimism to every practice, always ready with a word of encouragement, a listening ear, or a helping hand. Her impact on the HKYFA community is immeasurable.

Beyond the cheerleading arena, Leeha was a standout student at the University of Connecticut. Pursuing her academic goals with the same drive and energy she brought to coaching, she was admired by peers and professors alike for her intelligence, kindness, and boundless enthusiasm for learning. She had dreams of continuing to serve her community and was actively involved in campus life, where her leadership and vibrant personality made a lasting impression.

The news of her passing has rippled far beyond the HKYFA and UConn communities. Tributes have poured in from across the state and beyond, with former teammates, friends, and fellow students expressing their shock and sorrow. Many have taken to social media to share memories of Leeha — her contagious smile, her ability to make others feel seen and heard, and her unfailing dedication to making a difference in the lives of those around her.

HKYFA released a heartfelt statement following the news:

“We are devastated by the loss of Leeha Reddy — a young woman who exemplified the best of our community. Leeha was more than just a cheerleader and coach; she was a beacon of hope and strength to those around her. Her memory will live on in every athlete she inspired, every friend she uplifted, and every life she touched.”

A candlelight vigil is being organized by the association and local families to honor Leeha’s memory, bringing together those whose lives were impacted by her light. There are also plans for a scholarship in her name, designed to support young athletes who embody Leeha’s spirit of leadership, compassion, and resilience.

As the Haddam-Killingworth community grapples with this profound loss, it clings to the legacy Leeha leaves behind — one of kindness, inspiration, and love. Though her time was far too short, Leeha Reddy’s spirit will forever echo in the cheers of the teams she coached, the lessons she taught, and the hearts she helped shape.
