She vanished without warning, her phone went dark, and her car was traced to a grocery store parking lot in Mableton. On October 11, Cobb County police were pulled into the search when Davis-Hutti’s son contacted 911. He revealed that using OnStar technology, he had located her vehicle at the Lidl grocery store on Floyd Road—but the car sat there empty and her whereabouts were unknown. Investigators met him at the scene. Moments later, her boyfriend, Cecil McCrary, showed up, handing officers surveillance footage of Davis-Hutti leaving his home on the evening of October 9. He claimed that was the last time he saw her.
From there, the case quickly escalated. The Cobb County Police Department entered Davis-Hutti into the national missing persons database, and their Major Crimes Unit took charge.
