Hickory Police Seek Suspect in Fatal Drive-By Shooting of Mariey Peterson

Posted on July 24, 2025 by Usainsightreport

HICKORY, N.C. — The Hickory Police Department continues its investigation into the tragic drive-by shooting that claimed the life of 22-year-old Keimarian Donyah Peterson on July 14, 2025. The incident, which occurred at Keating Pointe Apartments on 2nd Street SE, has left the Hickory community mourning and searching for answers in a case that remains unresolved.

Peterson was fatally shot around 5:40 p.m. while walking in the area. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before finding Peterson deceased on the scene. Hickory police recovered nearly a dozen shell casings along 2nd Street SE, indicating a targeted attack, though the motive remains unclear. Despite extensive efforts, no arrests have been made as of the latest updates.

On July 23, 2025, Channel 9 Eyewitness News reported new developments in the case, airing surveillance footage that captured a red Dodge Charger with tinted windows speeding away from the scene shortly after the shooting. The footage, described as a critical lead, has been widely circulated, prompting police to appeal to the public for help in identifying the vehicle and its driver. “Investigators are hoping someone will recognize the red Dodge Charger with tinted windows and report it,” police stated, emphasizing the importance of community assistance.

Mariey Peterson, known to family and friends as a vibrant and beloved individual, had no known ties to criminal activity. He had spent the day with his nieces at the Brown Penn Recreation Center, where he also worked out, before the shooting occurred. A memorial of balloons, candles, and flowers now marks the spot where he was killed, with loved ones holding vigils to honor his memory. “It’s very sad. It’s scary, honestly. It’s very, very, very worrisome,” said neighbor Sunnee Young, reflecting the community’s grief and concern.

Peterson’s mother, Tara Peterson, expressed her anguish and determination for justice, stating, “Seeing that video, all I can say is that justice will be served. My baby will get his justice.” A memorial service for Peterson was scheduled for 2 p.m., though specific details about the date were not provided in recent reports.

The Hickory Police Department is actively pursuing leads and has not ruled out the possibility of multiple individuals being involved. They urge anyone with information to contact Investigator Tammie Johnson at [email protected] or call 828-328-5551. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
