High-Speed Crash in Plano Claims Life of 25-Year-Old Passenger Alex Rangle

Plano, Texas — A late-night crash at a busy Plano intersection ended in tragedy when a white Chevrolet Silverado lost control and struck a wooden power pole, killing 25-year-old Alex Rangle, who was riding in the passenger seat.

The fatal collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night near the intersection of 14th Street and Los Rios Boulevard. According to preliminary findings from the Plano Police Department, the truck had been traveling westbound on La Paz Drive when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto 14th Street at a high rate of speed.

That speed proved catastrophic. As the driver tried to maneuver the turn, the Silverado skidded out of control. Tire marks stretched across the asphalt, showing the vehicle’s desperate attempt to regain traction before slamming broadside into a wooden utility pole.

The pole held firm — but the passenger side of the truck crumpled inward from the force of impact, crushing the space where Rangle was seated. The sound of the collision could be heard blocks away, and neighbors quickly dialed 911.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes, including Plano Fire-Rescue units and police officers. They found both occupants trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Using hydraulic rescue tools, firefighters cut through the twisted metal to reach the victims. Despite their rapid efforts and on-scene medical intervention, Alex Rangle was pronounced dead at the scene due to catastrophic injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was extracted from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Police have not provided updates on his current condition or the extent of his injuries.

Investigators from the Plano Police Traffic Unit spent much of the night examining the scene. Officers measured skid marks, photographed debris, and documented the vehicle’s final position. Evidence suggests that excessive speed played a major role in the crash, though authorities are also investigating whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

The intersection at 14th Street and Los Rios remained closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and ensure the damaged power pole did not pose additional hazards. Utility workers were later called to stabilize and inspect the structure.

For those who knew Alex Rangle, the loss feels almost impossible to comprehend. Friends describe him as a kind, upbeat young man with an easy smile and endless potential. “Alex was the kind of person who made everyone feel seen and valued,” one friend shared on social media. “He had so many plans ahead of him — this just doesn’t feel real.”

Family members gathered quietly at the scene Sunday morning, leaving flowers and candles near the pole where the crash occurred. Many expressed both grief and frustration, struggling to understand how a moment of reckless speed could erase a life so full of promise.

The Plano Police Department has urged drivers to use the tragedy as a reminder of the dangers of speeding and the responsibility that comes with operating a vehicle.

The investigation remains active, and authorities plan to release further information as toxicology results and crash reconstruction analyses are completed.

As the city of Plano wakes to the news of yet another preventable loss, one family now faces the painful reality of burying a son, a friend, and a life that ended far too soon — a young man whose 25 years were not nearly enough.
