Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Stabbing in Hopewell

Hopewell, VA — May 1, 2025

The Hopewell Police Department is actively investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the death of a local man. According to officials, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South 4th Avenue at approximately 12:01 a.m. on May 1, 2025, following reports of a stabbing in the area.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 41-year-old Sharod Tucker of Hopewell suffering from a life-threatening stab wound. Emergency medical personnel were immediately summoned to the scene. Despite the efforts of first responders, Tucker was pronounced dead on site. His identity was confirmed by authorities later Thursday morning.

The scene was quickly secured by Hopewell Police, and detectives launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses, collected evidence, and began reviewing nearby surveillance footage in hopes of piecing together the events leading up to the stabbing.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made, and police had not released details regarding a possible suspect or motive. Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains in its early stages, and they are pursuing multiple leads.

“We extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Tucker during this incredibly difficult time,” said a spokesperson for the Hopewell Police Department. “We are committed to finding answers and bringing justice in this case.”

The police department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously through the Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers tip line or directly to the Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Neighbors described Tucker as a longtime resident of the area, and his sudden death has sent shockwaves through the South 4th Avenue community. Some residents reported hearing a commotion shortly before midnight, while others expressed concern about increasing violence in the neighborhood.

“I’ve lived here for over 15 years, and this is heartbreaking,” said one neighbor who asked to remain anonymous. “Sharod was always respectful, and it’s devastating to think something like this could happen just steps from our homes.”

This incident marks the latest in a series of violent crimes that have occurred in Hopewell over recent months, prompting calls for increased police presence and community outreach. City leaders are expected to address the recent surge in violence at the upcoming council meeting.

Hopewell Police continue to ask the public for patience and cooperation as the investigation proceeds. More information is expected to be released as the case develops.
