In Loving Memory of Aaron Kamalei Santiago
Hilo, Hawai‘i – A Heartfelt Tribute to a Life of Love and Light

It is with deepest sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of Aaron Kamalei Santiago of Hilo, Hawai‘i, who left this world on March 23, 2025, at the age of 37. Aaron’s sudden departure has left his family, friends, and community in profound grief, yet his memory continues to radiate through the countless lives he touched with his warm heart, steadfast spirit, and genuine aloha.

Born and raised on the Big Island, Aaron was the embodiment of Hawaiian values—compassionate, grounded, and full of life. He carried with him a sense of kuleana (responsibility) to care for others and uplift those around him. Whether through a smile, a story, a helping hand, or a quiet act of kindness, Aaron made people feel welcome, loved, and understood. He had a unique way of putting others at ease, often serving as a calming presence in times of need.

Aaron was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and community member. His connection to ‘ohana ran deep, and he was known for being fiercely loyal and protective of those he loved. To his family, Aaron was a pillar of strength and laughter—a steady presence who celebrated every milestone, stood by them in moments of sorrow, and carried traditions with pride. To his friends, he was someone who always showed up—dependable, honest, and full of life.

Whether you knew Aaron for a lifetime or only met him once, you remembered him. His laugh was unforgettable, his kindness was sincere, and his energy was contagious. He had a deep respect for nature and Hawaiian culture, often spending time near the ocean, in the mountains, or at community gatherings, finding peace in the land that raised him. His appreciation for the simple joys of life—local music, good food, laughter under the stars—was infectious.

Aaron’s impact on the Hilo community extended beyond friendship and family. He was a mentor, a motivator, and someone who never hesitated to lend his time or energy to support others. Whether volunteering for a local cause, helping with youth sports, or simply offering words of encouragement to someone in need, he showed up wholeheartedly. His legacy is one of generosity, unity, and true aloha.

To honor his life, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Wailoa State Park Pavilion. Friends, family, and all who were touched by Aaron’s life are invited to attend and share in remembrance, song, food, and story. This will be a time to grieve together, to honor Aaron’s journey, and to celebrate the love he brought into the world.

While Aaron’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, the love he gave, the memories he created, and the values he lived by will remain alive in all of us. His story reminds us to be present, to cherish one another, and to live with grace and heart.

Aaron Kamalei Santiago — your time here may have been brief, but the imprint you’ve left is eternal.
May your soul rest in peace, carried gently by the trade winds, surrounded by the islands you so deeply loved.

“A hui hou, until we meet again.”
