Posted on May 3, 2025 by Usainsightreport

1986 – 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family and friends of Cody A. Tunnell, age 38, announce his passing on May 2, 2025, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

Born in 1986, Cody was a cherished member of the Red Oak community—someone whose presence radiated warmth, humor, and authenticity. A devoted parent, loving partner, and loyal friend, Cody’s life was marked by a deep appreciation for the simple joys of nature and family. He had a unique ability to find beauty in the world around him, and he shared that perspective generously with others.

Cody was a passionate outdoorsman who found peace and joy in the wild. Whether birdwatching in the early morning light, setting up camp under the stars, or wandering wooded paths in search of mushrooms, he felt most at home in nature. These quiet, thoughtful moments reflected his reflective spirit and keen eye for life’s details—always observing, always appreciating.

His enthusiasm for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family. Cody was a proud and devoted father to Richard, Olivia, Madilyn, Brycen, and Jackson, each of whom carries forward his legacy of wonder, laughter, and resilience. As a parent, Cody was both a protector and a playmate—never too busy to share a story, teach a life lesson, or embark on a spontaneous adventure.

Cody also shared a loving bond with his fiancé, Sarah Hill, with whom he built a life full of shared dreams and deep companionship. Their partnership was rooted in mutual respect, affection, and unwavering support. Together, they navigated life’s challenges and joys, always holding each other up and moving forward with love.

Those who knew Cody will remember his vibrant personality—his quick wit, his easy smile, and the genuine way he made others feel seen and valued. He had a gift for bringing people together, lifting spirits, and filling rooms with laughter. His presence was magnetic, his laughter contagious, and his kindness unforgettable.

Cody’s absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of many, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared around campfires, in the songs of birds, and in the cherished memories held by those who loved him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Cody’s honor on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. All who knew and loved Cody are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate the remarkable life of a truly unforgettable man.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Cody’s memory by spending time outdoors with your loved ones, embracing the natural world he so dearly loved, and taking a moment to truly appreciate the small, beautiful things in life—just as Cody always did.

Rest easy, Cody. Your light will never dim in the hearts you touched.
