In Loving Memory of Dawn Kopec Sweeney
Beloved Coach, Mentor, and Friend

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dawn Kopec Sweeney, a cherished member of the Coatesville Area High School community and a dedicated assistant coach of the Girls Basketball team. Dawn’s unexpected departure has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved her—students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and family alike.

Dawn was more than just a coach; she was a mentor, a motivator, and a beacon of strength and encouragement for countless young women on and off the basketball court. Her passion for the game was only matched by her deep care for her players. She believed in each athlete’s potential, often seeing strengths in them they didn’t yet recognize in themselves. Under her guidance, many grew not only as competitors but also as confident, resilient individuals ready to take on life’s challenges.

At Coatesville Area High School, Dawn was a respected and admired figure—someone who embodied the values of dedication, integrity, and community spirit. Her warm smile, tireless commitment, and positive presence made her a beloved part of the school family. Whether she was mentoring a struggling student, staying late after practice to offer extra help, or celebrating a hard-earned victory, Dawn brought a unique energy and authenticity that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

To her fellow coaches and educators, Dawn was a trusted colleague and a true team player. She believed in lifting others up and always showed up—ready to contribute, to listen, and to support. Her legacy will forever remain woven into the fabric of the Girls Basketball program and the broader school community she served so wholeheartedly.

Beyond the school grounds, Dawn was a cherished friend and a loving member of her family. Her kindness, humor, and compassion touched the lives of many. She lived her life with purpose and heart, and her impact will be felt far beyond the sidelines of any gymnasium.

As we mourn her loss, we also honor the tremendous light Dawn brought into our lives. We find comfort in knowing that her influence lives on in the many students she mentored, the colleagues she inspired, and the lives she helped shape. Though her time with us was far too short, the legacy she leaves behind is enduring.

A celebration of Dawn’s life will be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, we invite members of the Coatesville community and all who knew her to keep her memory alive through acts of kindness, dedication, and compassion—values she lived by each and every day.

Rest in peace, Coach Sweeney. Your spirit will always be part of Coatesville, and your light will continue to guide us.
