It is with profound sorrow and immense sadness that we acknowledge the tragic and untimely loss of one of our cherished pupils, Layton Carr, following a devastating accident on Friday night, as reported in the news. The entire school community is in mourning as we try to come to terms with the loss of such a bright, kind-hearted, and spirited young individual.
Layton was a valued and much-loved member of Year 9. He brought joy, energy, and warmth into every room he entered. His friends describe him as someone who could always make them laugh, someone who cared deeply, and someone who made their days brighter. Teachers speak of his polite nature, his eagerness to learn, and his quiet strength of character. Layton was not only a student but a beacon of potential and promise, and his absence will be deeply felt throughout our corridors, classrooms, and playgrounds.
Words cannot fully express the grief that our community is experiencing. We are heartbroken, and our thoughts remain firmly with Layton’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. To Layton’s parents and loved ones, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. No words can ease the pain of such a loss, but please know that you are surrounded by a school community that is united in sorrow and standing in support of you.
At this time, it is more important than ever that we lean on one another. As a school, we will continue to rally together to support our students, staff, and families as we navigate this tragedy. Pastoral teams, counsellors, and staff members are available for anyone who needs someone to talk to or simply a quiet space to reflect and grieve.
We also understand that many in our community will want to find a way to honour Layton’s memory. To that end, we invite anyone who wishes to pay their respects to do so by laying flowers at the fence in front of the bungalow. This space will serve as a quiet, respectful memorial—a place to remember Layton, reflect on the special moments he shared with us, and to express our collective love and grief.
In moments like these, we are reminded of the fragility of life, and the strength we find in one another. Layton will forever be remembered, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
With deepest sympathy,
David Thompson
