In Loving Memory of Saif Kalboneh: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Saif Kalboneh, a cherished member of the Eastern Connecticut State University community, and a beloved friend, son, and student. Saif’s unexpected departure has left a deep and unfillable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His memory, however, will remain a guiding light—forever etched in the hearts of everyone he touched.

Saif was more than a student; he was a vibrant soul who brought warmth, laughter, and kindness wherever he went. Whether he was walking the halls of ECSU, engaging in meaningful classroom discussions, or sharing quiet moments with close friends, Saif’s presence was always felt. His easygoing nature, gentle heart, and deep compassion made him someone others naturally gravitated toward. He was a source of strength, humor, and inspiration, known for encouraging those around him to be their best selves.

To his professors and peers, Saif was a dedicated learner, passionate about his education and always curious about the world around him. He displayed a rare mix of intellect and humility, never seeking praise, but always deserving of it. His academic promise was matched only by his character—genuine, respectful, and kind.

Outside of the classroom, Saif’s friendships were deep and meaningful. He had a gift for making others feel seen and heard, always ready with a supportive word or a listening ear. Friends describe him as someone who could make anyone smile, no matter the situation. He carried a quiet resilience and an unwavering optimism that lifted those around him, even in life’s most challenging moments.

To his family, Saif was a beloved son whose love and loyalty knew no bounds. The bond he shared with his loved ones was one built on mutual respect, shared dreams, and endless affection. His passing is an unimaginable loss to them, and the grief they bear is immeasurable. The Kalboneh family asks for privacy during this time of mourning, while also expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.

As the ECSU community mourns the loss of one of its own, plans are being made to honor Saif’s life and legacy. A campus-wide vigil is expected to be held in the coming days to bring together those who loved Saif, to share memories, and to find comfort in collective grief. Details will be shared once finalized.

Saif Kalboneh’s passing is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we care about. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact he made is indelible. His light will continue to shine in the lives of those he uplifted and in the memories that will forever keep his spirit alive.

To all who are mourning, Eastern Connecticut State University offers its full support. Counseling services and grief resources are available through the Student Counseling Center, and students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to seek help and care for one another.

Rest in peace, Saif Kalboneh. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed. Your legacy lives on—in our stories, in our hearts, and in the quiet ways you made the world a better place.
