NEWARK, OH — May 21, 2025 — With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, the family of Robert Parker announces his peaceful passing on May 21, 2025, at the age of 78.
Robert passed away surrounded by his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to family and community. His departure marks the end of a beautiful life lived with purpose, humility, and an enduring commitment to others.
Born in Newark, Ohio, in 1947, Robert was a lifelong resident of the city he loved so dearly. A proud graduate of Newark High School, he went on to serve in the United States Army, where he learned the values of discipline and honor—qualities that would define his character for the rest of his life. After his military service, Robert returned home and began a long career at the Newark Steel Mill, where he worked diligently for over 35 years before retiring.
Robert was more than just a dedicated worker; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret “Maggie” Parker (née Jennings), with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage—a union rooted in love, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Together they raised three children—David, Angela, and Thomas—instilling in them the same values Robert held dear: integrity, hard work, and kindness.
Those who knew Robert will remember him for his quiet wisdom, his wry sense of humor, and his deep love for life’s simple pleasures: fishing at Buckeye Lake, Sunday barbecues with his grandchildren, Ohio State football games, and long evening walks with Maggie. A man of faith, Robert was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark, where he volunteered regularly and found solace in his community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie; his children, David (Lisa), Angela (Mark), and Thomas (Jessica); his seven grandchildren—Emily, Nathan, Sarah, Lucas, Grace, Noah, and Ava; and his younger sister, Ellen Parker-Watkins. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Parker, and his older brother, James Parker.
The Parker family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Newark Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Robert’s final days. Their kindness and support brought immense comfort during a difficult time.
A public celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, followed by a burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and share in remembering a truly remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Licking County Food Pantry, two causes close to Robert’s heart.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, Robert Parker’s spirit, wisdom, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
