Posted on May 16, 2025 by Usainsightreport

With deep sadness and heartfelt respect, we announce the passing of Retired Lieutenant Dena Nichols

It is with profound sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Retired Lieutenant Dena Nichols, a cherished and respected member of our firefighting family. Lt. Nichols departed this life recently, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.

Lieutenant Dena Nichols served our department with unwavering dedication for nearly two decades. Throughout her career, she was not only a skilled and courageous firefighter but also a natural leader, mentor, and friend. Her commitment to duty, her calm under pressure, and her relentless pursuit of excellence made her a cornerstone of our department and a role model for future generations.

Lt. Nichols was known for her unshakeable integrity, her fierce loyalty to her team, and her ability to find strength even in the most challenging of circumstances. Whether responding to an emergency, supporting a colleague, or training new recruits, she gave her all—day in and day out. Her bravery was matched only by her compassion. She treated every call, every situation, and every person with humanity, respect, and empathy.

Beyond her service in uniform, Dena was a friend to many, a mentor to countless young firefighters, and a source of strength and wisdom throughout the department. She believed in service above self and carried that belief into every aspect of her life. Her passion for public safety, her commitment to the community, and her boundless kindness touched more lives than can be counted.

Retiring after nearly 20 years of exemplary service, Lt. Nichols left behind big boots to fill—both literally and figuratively. Her absence is deeply felt by all who served with her and by the broader community she helped protect. Her legacy, however, lives on in the stories we share, the values we uphold, and the standard of excellence she set.

To her family, we extend our most sincere condolences. We thank you for sharing Dena with us for so many years. Her impact within our department and community will never be forgotten.

A memorial service honoring Lt. Nichols will be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, we invite all who knew her to reflect on her incredible contributions, share their memories, and continue the work she so passionately believed in.

Rest in peace, Lt. Dena Nichols. Your service, your spirit, and your sacrifice will always be remembered. You have answered your final call, but your legacy endures in every life you touched.
