Posted on July 9, 2025 by Usainsightreport

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude, we announce the passing of Sergeant Joe Rice, a deeply respected and beloved member of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office family. His departure leaves a significant void, not only within the agency but across the entire Madison County community, where he served with unwavering dedication for more than three decades.

Sergeant Joe Rice devoted over 30 years of honorable service to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, working across multiple divisions including Corrections, Patrol, and the Civil Division. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, a role in which he led with humility, consistency, and unwavering fairness. Throughout his tenure, Joe was known for his servant’s heart and calm, steady leadership. His colleagues and the community knew him as someone they could always count on — in moments of calm and crisis alike.

Even after his well-earned retirement in November 2020, Joe’s dedication to public service did not end. He returned to the Civil Division in a part-time capacity, a true reflection of his deep commitment to both the mission and the people of Madison County. His decision to continue serving, even in retirement, speaks volumes about the kind of man he was — selfless, loyal, and driven by purpose.

Sheriff Kevin Turner shared heartfelt words in tribute:

“Joe Rice embodied the values of dedication, leadership, and quiet strength. His impact on this agency is lasting, and we are deeply saddened by his passing. Please keep the Rice family, his friends, and his fellow deputies in your thoughts and prayers.”

Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Sergeant Rice mentored countless deputies, helped maintain the safety of the courthouse and community, and was a pillar of quiet strength during challenging times. His leadership style was never loud or self-serving — it was rooted in respect, reliability, and a strong moral compass.

Beyond the badge, Joe was a man of faith, family, and community. He touched the lives of all who knew him — not just through his uniform, but through his everyday actions, his words of encouragement, and his steadfast loyalty to those he loved.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind. His service to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Madison County will not be forgotten. His story will be told with honor, and his example will continue to inspire future generations of law enforcement officers.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Rice family, and to all who had the privilege of working beside Joe or calling him a friend. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office stands together in sorrow and solidarity, united by the lasting impact of one of our finest.

Rest in peace, Sergeant Joe Rice.

Your duty is done. Your legacy lives on.
