Clermont, FL – On April 15, 2025, Jude Alexandre, 32, accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 35 years in state prison for second-degree homicide in the killing of his girlfriend, Miriam Ortiz. The plea brings resolution to a case that has weighed heavily on the Clermont community since 2019.
On September 2, 2019, Miriam Ortiz, 43, was found shot to death in the driveway of her home in Clermont. Detectives launched an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Evidence and witness testimony pointed to Jude Alexandre as the primary suspect. Investigators believe Alexandre shot Ortiz following a dispute over his belief that she had stolen drugs from him.
After years of pre-trial motions and continued efforts by law enforcement and prosecutors, Alexandre agreed to plead guilty to second-degree homicide in exchange for a 35-year prison sentence.
We are grateful to the detectives who worked diligently to uncover the truth in this case and to the State Attorney’s Office for their thorough and committed prosecution. Their collective efforts have ensured accountability and delivered a measure of justice for Miriam Ortiz and her loved ones.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Miriam Ortiz, who continue to mourn her tragic loss.
