Latta Man Arrested for Child Sex Crimes: Marion County Sheriff’s Office Announces Charges

MARION COUNTY, SC — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has arrested Christopher Duane Davis, 43, of Latta, South Carolina, in connection with a disturbing case involving multiple child exploitation charges.

According to investigators, Davis has been charged with the following:
• Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – 3rd Degree (involving a victim under 16 years old)
• Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor 12 Years of Age or Younger

Authorities allege that between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, Davis engaged in sexually exploitative behavior involving minor victims. During this period, Davis reportedly coerced or allowed a victim under the age of 16 to engage in inappropriate contact for his personal sexual gratification.

Further compounding the charges, investigators allege that Davis knowingly distributed pornographic content to another victim — this one just 12 years old or younger — a serious offense under South Carolina law.

Ongoing Investigation

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more victims or additional suspects, and are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

In a statement released Monday, the Sheriff’s Office reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community:

“The safety and well-being of children is our top priority. We will pursue every lead and ensure that those who harm children are held fully accountable.”

Community Impact and Legal Consequences

Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor in the third degree is a felony offense under South Carolina law and carries significant penalties, including the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender upon conviction. Disseminating obscene material to a minor under 12 is also a felony and considered an aggravating factor in sentencing.

As the legal proceedings move forward, Davis remains in custody. It is unclear at this time whether bond has been set or if he has obtained legal representation.

How to Report Information

Anyone who may have additional information about this case — or who suspects similar abuse — is encouraged to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 423-8399. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through local Crime Stoppers hotlines.
