Louisville Crash Leaves a Family Holding On: The Fundraiser for Brooke and Matt’s Unthinkable Battle

Posted on November 5, 2025 by Usainsightreport

When the cargo plane soared into the evening sky above Louisville yesterday, no one expected that a young father would soon be fighting for his life—and his family would be left scrambling just to stay afloat. For Matt Sweets and his partner Brooke Murray, the catastrophic crash of UPS Flight 2976 on Nov. 4 became the worst-case scenario. The plane, departing from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and bound for Honolulu, erupted in flames just after take-off—and the consequences ripple far beyond headlines.

Matt, the sole provider for their household and father to two young children, is listed in critical condition after suffering third-degree burns over an almost unimaginable 95% of his body, according to family updates. The family launched a community fundraiser, explaining that with Matt hospitalized indefinitely, Brooke and their kids are facing mounting bills, uncertain futures, and the emotional toll of this sudden disaster. (The original text came from the family’s message.) They emphasise that no donation is too small—and, equally importantly, that every prayer, share and “we’re thinking of you” message makes a difference.

The broader story of the crash adds up to a scene of devastation: At least nine people are confirmed dead, and authorities warn the toll may rise. The three-engine MD-11F cargo jet was loaded with tens of thousands of gallons of fuel when it lifted off and shortly after its left wing caught fire, it crashed into businesses near the airport—specifically a petroleum-recycling plant and an auto-parts facility—igniting massive fires and a debris field the size of a city block.

In their appeal, Brooke and Matt’s supporters write: “Matt is a fighter. We are holding on to every bit of hope and faith that God gives us. He has a long road ahead, but we are believing for his healing.” And the gravity of that road shows both in the medical challenge and in the practical ones. With Matt out of work for the foreseeable future, funds raised will cover household bills, groceries, and medical expenses—allowing Brooke to focus on her husband and their children rather than just how to make next month’s rent.

The crash’s local impact is profound. Operations at the UPS hub—an enormous 5-million square-foot facility that processes over two million packages a day—were disrupted. Residents near the crash site were urged to stay away, warned of potential chemical and fuel hazards, and told not to touch any debris. Recovery crews warned that the toll on both human lives and infrastructure may not yet be fully known.

Back in the Murray/Sweets household, the fundraiser is more than a way to pay bills—it is a lifeline to hope. Their friends and community are stepping in, saying: “We are loved by so many… Please keep us in your prayers and help us support this family as they face the most difficult battle of their lives.” And yes, they emphasise: every share helps. Because when the disaster goes beyond statistics and its toll hits one family, the ripple effect becomes deeply human.

What this tragic story reminds us is: in the aftermath of catastrophe, lives are altered in a single instant. Matt’s fight is as much physical as it is about rebuilding a life from rubble and flame. He and Brooke are asking us—not just for money, but for presence, for community, for connection. Amid the grief and uncertainty, that may turn out to be the strongest foundation they have.
