Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that occurred early Friday morning in south Minneapolis, resulting in the death of a man.
The Minneapolis Police Department reports that officers responded to calls of gunfire near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue South at approximately 2:33 a.m. on July 25, 2025. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a man in his 30s suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The victim was immediately provided with CPR by officers and was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity, along with the official cause and manner of death, following a scheduled autopsy.
According to preliminary findings from the investigation, the victim had been engaged in a conversation with an individual inside a vehicle just moments before the shooting. The suspect reportedly exited the vehicle, fired multiple shots at the victim, and then fled the scene before police arrived. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed the incident, stating, “We as a community cannot accept this violence and tragedy as normal. Investigators are working diligently to follow up on leads and learn what led up to this tragic shooting. If anyone has any information about this tragedy, please provide it to our investigators.”
