Posted on May 11, 2025 by Usainsightreport

Chicago, IL – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday night in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood when a man was fatally struck by a CTA Blue Line train after falling onto the tracks, authorities confirmed.

According to the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the Logan Square Blue Line station, located in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. Witnesses at the scene reported that the man appeared to have lost his balance and fell from the platform onto the tracks moments before an inbound train approached.

Emergency responders, including paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department, rushed to the scene. The man, who has not yet been identified publicly pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Train service was immediately suspended between Damen and Belmont stations to allow emergency crews and police investigators to conduct their work. CTA officials established shuttle bus service to accommodate affected passengers during the disruption, which lasted for several hours into the early morning.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the individual involved in this tragic event,” a CTA spokesperson said in a brief statement late Saturday night. “Safety remains our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation continues.”

It remains unclear what caused the man to fall onto the tracks. Authorities have not yet ruled out the possibility of a medical emergency or impairment, but no foul play is currently suspected. Surveillance footage from the station is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

The incident sparked renewed conversations on social media and in the community about platform safety and mental health awareness, with some residents calling for the installation of protective barriers or warning systems along the elevated platforms.

The Logan Square station is a heavily trafficked stop on the CTA’s Blue Line, which runs between O’Hare International Airport and Forest Park, connecting riders with downtown Chicago and numerous neighborhoods along the way.

As of Sunday morning, full service on the Blue Line has resumed, though officials advised riders to expect residual delays as operations normalize.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the man’s identity following the completion of an autopsy and notification of his family.
