Maricopa Teen Motorcyclist Passes After Friday Evening Collision at Busy City Intersection

Maricopa, Arizona — The Maricopa community is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Demetry Quiruz, who passed Friday evening after a devastating motorcycle collision at the intersection of Smith-Enke Road and Porter Road, one of the city’s busiest traffic areas. The accident, which occurred just after sunset, has left family, friends, and neighbors grieving the sudden loss of a young man described as full of life and ambition.

According to the Maricopa Police Department, emergency responders were called to the intersection shortly after 7:00 p.m. following reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle. When officers arrived, they found Demetry Quiruz lying near his bike with severe injuries. Witnesses told investigators that traffic had been moderate when the collision occurred, and that the impact appeared to have thrown him several feet from the motorcycle.

Paramedics immediately began life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, doctors were unable to save him, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police as the investigation began. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity, and no charges have been filed pending the results of a full collision reconstruction.

Police officers and accident investigators spent several hours collecting evidence, marking skid patterns, and speaking with witnesses. Preliminary findings suggest that speed and visibility may have been factors, though officials have not confirmed whether impairment or distracted driving played any role. The Maricopa Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to analyze the data to determine the exact cause.

For those who knew Demetry, the news has been devastating. Friends describe him as an energetic and kind-hearted young man who loved motorcycles and spent much of his free time working on bikes with his friends. A recent graduate of Maricopa High School, Demetry had been working locally while saving money to enroll in a technical program next year.

“He had such a bright spirit,” said one close friend who grew up with him. “Riding was something he loved—it gave him peace. Everyone knew him by his smile.”

His family released a brief statement through social media, thanking the community for their outpouring of support and asking for privacy as they grieve. “Demetry was our heart,” the post read. “We’re still trying to understand how this could happen. Please remember him for his kindness, his laughter, and his love for life.”

In the days since the accident, flowers, candles, and photos have been placed near the intersection where the crash occurred. Local residents have also called on city officials to review traffic safety at the crossroads, which has seen several accidents in recent years due to high traffic volume and complex signal timing.

As the investigation continues, the city of Maricopa stands united in remembrance of a life gone too soon. For many, Demetry Quiruz will be remembered not just for his passion for riding, but for the way he made others feel — valued, seen, and loved.
