A significant law enforcement operation is underway in the Kingspoint neighborhood of Slidell, Louisiana, as authorities intensify their search for Corey Boyd, one of the inmates who recently escaped from the Orleans Justice Center. Residents in the Old Kingspoint area have reported a heavy deployment of law enforcement vehicles and tactical units, with the Louisiana State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and SWAT teams reportedly surrounding a residence believed to be connected to Boyd.
Corey Boyd is among ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16, 2025. The escape involved breaching a wall behind a toilet in a cell, exploiting defective locks and inoperable security cameras. The inmates used tools to cut through steel bars and scaled a barbed wire fence to flee the facility. The escape was not discovered until a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m., approximately seven hours later.
Authorities have indicated that the escape was likely facilitated by inside help. Sterling Williams, a 33-year-old maintenance worker at the jail, has been arrested for allegedly aiding the escape by turning off the water supply to a toilet, allowing inmates to remove it without triggering a flood. Williams claimed he was coerced by an inmate who threatened him with violence.
As of now, four of the ten escapees have been recaptured, while six remain at large, including Boyd. The fugitives are considered armed and dangerous, and a combined reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information leading to their capture.
The escape has prompted significant criticism of the Orleans Justice Center’s security measures. Sheriff Susan Hutson has acknowledged the possibility of internal assistance and has suspended three employees during the ongoing investigation. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has ordered an audit of the facility and removed state inmates, citing the incident as symptomatic of a failed justice system.
In Slidell, the manhunt for Boyd continues, with law enforcement urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The situation remains fluid, and authorities are committed to ensuring public safety as they work to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
