The humid night air in Honolulu was shattered by violence earlier this month when a dispute in a Sheridan Street bar escalated into a brutal knife attack, leaving two men fighting for their lives. After a nearly two-week manhunt, the Honolulu Police Department has now arrested the man they believe is responsible.
Kenneth Bounlangsy, 51, was taken into custody last Friday at 12:30 p.m. and formally booked on two counts of first-degree assault. His arrest closes a critical chapter in an investigation that began on the night of Saturday, August 9th.
The incident unfolded in the confined space of a bar’s back room, located near the intersection of Sheridan and S. King Street. According to police reports, Bounlangsy was with the two victims, aged 27 and 29, when a heated argument erupted. The verbal confrontation quickly spiraled out of control, turning physically violent in a flash.
In a sudden and brutal act, Bounlangsy allegedly produced a knife and stabbed both men multiple times. The attack was so ferocious that the victims were left with severe, life-threatening wounds. As panic ensued, the suspect fled the scene into the night, leaving behind a trail of blood and chaos.
Emergency responders rushed the two injured men to a nearby hospital, where they were both listed in serious condition. Their survival and ongoing recovery underscore the severity of the assault.
HPD detectives worked tirelessly to identify and locate the suspect, publicly naming Bounlangsy as their prime suspect on August 20th. His arrest several days later brought a measure of relief to a community on edge. A judge has set his bail at $100,000, as the legal process begins to unfold for the accused.
