Posted on July 22, 2025 by Usainsightreport

A Montgomery man lost his life following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Montgomery, Alabama, on Monday evening, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near mile marker 2, within the city limits of Montgomery. Dakus M. Nixon, 50, was driving a 2008 Freightliner box truck when it rear-ended a 2023 Hyundai Palisade, driven by 42-year-old Vatausha O. Howard of Selma. Following the initial collision, the Freightliner struck a concrete barrier.

Authorities report that Nixon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
