Posted on May 27, 2025 by Usainsightreport

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, a shocking and chaotic scene unfolded at the Brass Mill Center in Waterbury, Connecticut, when multiple individuals were shot, prompting a swift and large-scale emergency response. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. in the mall’s food court area, leading to panic among shoppers and employees. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots followed by screams, with people fleeing or seeking shelter within stores.

Approximately 45 emergency vehicles, including police, fire, and medical units, responded to the scene. Law enforcement officers, some equipped with long rifles and accompanied by K-9 units, entered the mall to secure the area and search for suspects. Shoppers were evacuated in groups as authorities worked to ensure safety.

One witness recounted that his son, who was working inside the mall, saw a wounded woman on the ground but was unable to assist her due to the chaotic and dangerous situation. The exact number of injured individuals and the severity of their conditions have not been confirmed by authorities. However, the mayor’s office stated that there were no fatalities at the time—a small comfort amid the frightening circumstances.

The Waterbury Police Department has launched an active investigation into the incident. Officers and detectives are collecting surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing the crime scene to determine the events leading up to the shooting. As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and authorities have not stated whether any arrests have been made. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.

In the aftermath of the shooting, officials have asked the public to avoid the Brass Mill Center and the surrounding area to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently. The mall has been closed to the public until further notice, and Union Street in the vicinity of the mall is being carefully monitored and restricted. Nearby schools and businesses are on heightened alert, with some implementing temporary lockdowns or early dismissals as a precaution.

The Brass Mill Center, located at 495 Union Street, is a well-frequented shopping destination in Waterbury, housing over 130 shops and featuring major retailers such as JCPenney, Burlington, Ashley Outlet, and Shoppers World. The mall’s prominence in the community has amplified the impact of this incident, leaving residents shaken and concerned about safety in public spaces.

As the investigation continues, city leaders are expected to address the public, providing updates on the case and outlining potential safety measures moving forward. The Waterbury community remains on edge as they await further information and hope for swift justice for the victims involved.
