Nampa Man Arrested for Sexual Offenses Against Minor; Investigators Urge Public to Come Forward

Posted on July 1, 2025 by Usainsightreport

Nampa, ID — On June 27, 2025, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Nampa Police Department officers responded to a deeply disturbing report involving the sexual assault of a juvenile. The alleged incident occurred at a private residence near Lake Lowell Avenue and Middleton Road, and the suspect was identified as Tyler James Schermerhorn, a 39-year-old male resident of Nampa.

The initial call to Nampa Dispatch involved accusations of sexual abuse by a known individual, prompting a swift response by law enforcement. Upon arriving at the residence, officers determined that Schermerhorn was no longer on the scene. A targeted search led authorities to a business in the 2000 block of N. Cassia Street, where Schermerhorn was located in the parking lot and taken into custody without incident.

Schermerhorn was subsequently transported to the Canyon County Jail, where he remains held on a $1 million bond. He is facing two felony charges under Idaho law:

  • Battery with intent to commit a serious felony (Idaho Code 18-911)
  • Sexual battery of a minor child aged 16 to 17 years (Idaho Code 18-1508A(1)(a))

Protecting the Victim & Ongoing Investigation

In order to protect the identity and well-being of the juvenile victim, specific details of the alleged assault are not being released publicly at this time. However, law enforcement officials have expressed serious concern that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Nampa Police Department’s investigators are urging the public to assist in the ongoing investigation. If you or someone you know may have information regarding Tyler James Schermerhorn and any inappropriate conduct involving minors, you are strongly encouraged to contact the authorities.

Anyone with information should call Nampa Dispatch at (208) 465-2257, option 1, and reference case number N25-37352. All reports can be made confidentially and will be handled with the utmost sensitivity and care.

A Community Call to Action

The Nampa Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the community—especially the most vulnerable members, our children. In light of this arrest, they are asking families, educators, and community members to have open conversations with youth and to report any suspicious behavior involving Schermerhorn or any other potential predators.

This case remains active and under investigation.
