NEWS RELEASE: Arrest Made in May 17 Malicious Wounding Investigation in Leesburg

Leesburg, VA – July 3, 2025 — The Leesburg Police Department has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a violent assault that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025. Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Mason A. Hodges, of Warrenton, Virginia, in connection with the incident, which left one man seriously injured.

Mason Hodges was taken into custody by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office on July 1 and is currently being held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center, pending transfer to Loudoun County. He has been formally charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding, a felony offense under Virginia law.

Details of the Incident

On May 17, 2025, at approximately 2:18 a.m., Leesburg officers responded to reports of a large fight in a parking lot located in the 500 block of East Market Street. When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim unconscious on the ground, suffering from significant injuries to his head and face.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment and was later released. His current condition has not been disclosed, but the extent of the injuries prompted a lengthy and thorough investigation by the Leesburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigation Leads to Arrest

Through diligent investigative work, detectives identified Mason Hodges as the primary suspect in the assault. A second individual who was present at the scene has also been identified; however, after careful review of all evidence, authorities determined that no charges will be filed against the second person.

A bond hearing for Mason Hodges is scheduled for July 7, 2025, in Loudoun County Circuit Court.
