Obituary: Susan Collier Pemberton (1958–2025)

The Lee’s Summit and Overland Park communities are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Susan Collier Pemberton, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, May 11, 2025, at the age of 67. Her death followed a devastating car accident that has left her family, friends, and neighbors in profound grief.

Born on April 12, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri, Susan spent the majority of her life in the Kansas City metropolitan area. She was a longtime resident of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where she was known for her unwavering kindness, generosity, and commitment to her community. Susan was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherished by her family for her nurturing spirit and steadfast support.

Professionally, Susan dedicated herself to helping others. She worked for many years in healthcare administration, where she was respected for her professionalism and compassionate approach to patient care. Her colleagues often spoke of her as a calming presence in times of stress and a source of strength for those around her.

A Tragic Loss

On the morning of May 11, 2025, Susan was involved in a car accident that claimed her life. Details surrounding the accident remain under investigation, but the news of her passing has sent shockwaves through the community. Friends and family are left grappling with the suddenness of her departure, struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone so integral to their lives.

Remembering Susan

Susan’s legacy is one of love, service, and community. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, where she volunteered her time and talents to various ministries. Her faith was central to her life, and she found joy in serving others through her church and local organizations.

Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Susan was an avid gardener, a lover of classic literature, and a devoted animal advocate. Her home was often filled with the laughter of her grandchildren and the warmth of friends and family gathered together.

Final Arrangements

A memorial service to honor Susan’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, located at 123 Main Street. The service will be followed by a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lee’s Summit Animal Shelter in Susan’s memory.

A Community in Mourning

The loss of Susan Collier Pemberton is deeply felt by all who knew her. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support of others have left an indelible mark on the Lee’s Summit and Overland Park communities. As friends and family come together to remember and celebrate her life, they find comfort in the knowledge that her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Susan is survived by her two children, Emily and James Pemberton; her four grandchildren, Lily, Noah, Grace, and Samuel; her sister, Carol (Pemberton) Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Pemberton, in 2010.

As the community of Lee’s Summit and beyond mourns her passing, they also celebrate the life of a woman who touched so many with her compassion, dedication, and love. Susan Collier Pemberton will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
