Officer Devin Jaramillo’s Final Call: A Life of Service Cut Short

Posted on November 8, 2025 by Usainsightreport

The community of Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) is reeling from the tragic loss of 27‑year‑old Deputy Devin Jaramillo, who was fatally shot on Friday afternoon while responding to a routine traffic crash in the Kendall area of Miami‑Dade County.

It was around 3:53 p.m. when deputies received a call to a crash at the intersection of SW 122nd Avenue and SW 128th Street. When Deputy Jaramillo arrived, an altercation ensued with a subject at the scene. During the struggle, he was shot; the suspect was also found deceased on the scene. A second individual was detained and is currently being questioned by authorities.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero‑Stutz expressed profound grief in addressing the media: “He’s not only a deputy, he’s a son, he’s a brother, and he is a friend… what happened to our deputy is not okay.” She described the attack as “brutal” and emphasized the senselessness of losing someone whose sole aim was to protect.

Before answering that call, Jaramillo’s professional path reflected serious dedication. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and corrections at the University of Central Florida and even interned with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He then served nearly four years with the Coral Gables Police Department, earning recognition such as “Officer of the Month” in July 2023. He joined the Miami‑Dade agency in May 2024.

Word of his loss brought first responders from across South Florida to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where Jaramillo was transported following the shooting. As night fell, a motorcade escorted his body, flanked by dozens of uniformed officers, a massive American flag held aloft by fire rescue trucks, and the mourning community lining Bird Road.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also weighed in, offering heartfelt condolences and underscoring the community’s solidarity: “Our entire community stands with this brave officer, his family and fellow deputies, and all our men and women in uniform who put themselves at risk to protect our community.”

For everyone who knew him, Devin will be remembered not just for the badge he wore but for his kindness, his unwavering commitment, and a spirit that aimed to safeguard others. Though his time was cut far too short, the legacy he leaves behind is one of courage and service—and the community mourns deeply while also rallying around his memory. As the investigation continues, people are pausing, reflecting, and honoring not just a deputy lost—but a young life dedicated to something greater. Rest in peace, Deputy Jaramillo.
