On Thursday, May 29, 2025, a confirmed tornado touched down in Henry County, Georgia, causing significant disruptions and raising concerns about severe weather preparedness in the region.

The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado, with estimated wind speeds between 85 and 90 mph, touched down in Henry County during the afternoon hours. The tornado’s path included a crossing over Interstate 75, a major transportation artery, leading to hazardous conditions for motorists. Dashcam footage captured the tornado as it moved across the highway, providing visual confirmation of its presence.

The tornado’s path extended approximately 6.55 miles over an eight-minute duration, with a width of about 100 yards. It caused damage to several structures, downed trees, and power lines, leading to power outages and road closures in the affected areas.

The tornado occurred amidst a series of severe thunderstorms that moved through the region, prompting tornado warnings and watches across multiple counties. Meteorologists had been tracking the storm system, which exhibited rotation and other characteristics indicative of tornadic activity.

Emergency services responded promptly to the affected areas, assessing damage and assisting residents. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, though assessments are ongoing. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to have emergency plans in place, given the unpredictability of severe weather events.
