Opelousas Woman Fatally Struck on Highway; Second Driver Flees Scene

Posted on August 15, 2025 by Usainsightreport

The tight-knit community of Opelousas, Louisiana, is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of Chrystal Thevis, a beloved 42-year-old resident whose life was cut short in a devastating pedestrian accident on U.S. Highway 167 near Flamingo Road in the early hours of August 14, 2025.

Chrystal, known for her radiant warmth and generous spirit, was walking along the roadway when she was struck by a southbound 2011 Toyota 4Runner. Authorities report that she was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time, and the impact proved fatal. Moments later, a second vehicle—still unidentified—also struck her and fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of grief and unanswered questions.

The driver of the 4Runner was unharmed, fully cooperative, and showed no signs of impairment. A breath sample revealed no alcohol, and a standard toxicology test was conducted on Chrystal to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, the search for the second vehicle intensifies, with Louisiana State Police urging anyone who may have been in the area between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and every detail could be crucial in bringing clarity and justice to Chrystal’s grieving family.

Chrystal’s death has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. Friends and family describe her as a beacon of kindness, someone whose laughter could light up a room and whose compassion touched countless lives. Her absence is felt deeply—not just by loved ones, but by the entire Opelousas community, which now rallies together in mourning and remembrance.

As the investigation continues, the community holds onto hope that answers will come. But for now, they honor Chrystal’s memory with candlelight vigils, heartfelt tributes, and the shared stories of a woman who made the world a little brighter simply by being in it.

She will be missed. She will be remembered. And she will never be forgotten.
