Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on I-96 Identified as 58-Year-Old Timothy Meagher of Webberville
INGHAM COUNTY, MICHIGAN — Authorities have identified the pedestrian who tragically lost his life after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 96 westbound near the M-52 overpass late Sunday morning. The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) confirmed that the victim was 58-year-old Timothy Meagher, a resident of the Webberville area.
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, shortly after 11:30 a.m., when ICSO deputies and NIESA Fire/Rescue units responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck. Upon arrival, first responders found Meagher deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck remained on-site and cooperated fully with the investigation. No injuries to the driver were reported, and authorities do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
According to early findings from investigators, it appears that Meagher had entered the westbound travel lanes of I-96 on foot, where he was struck by the oncoming semi-truck. The Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team and the Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing to assist with the investigation and have been working to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office issued a brief statement in light of the tragedy:
“Our thoughts go out to the community, his family, and friends.”
As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and foul play is not suspected. Investigators are treating the case with sensitivity, and the exact reason why Meagher entered the roadway remains unclear. Toxicology reports and additional forensic analysis from the medical examiner are pending, and officials stress that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Community members have begun to mourn the sudden loss of Meagher, who was described by some neighbors as quiet but friendly, with deep roots in the Webberville area. His death has sparked both grief and reflection across the small mid-Michigan community, with many offering condolences to his family and loved ones.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation. Those with tips are encouraged to contact ICSO Deputy Ben Manns at (517) 676-8444 ext. 1952.
As the community processes this tragic event, officials ask for privacy for the family and continued vigilance from drivers and pedestrians alike. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of pedestrian travel along high-speed roadways and the importance of continued public safety education.
Rest in peace, Timothy Meagher.
