Remembering Matthew Wood: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon at Age 10

Posted on July 10, 2025 by Usainsightreport

Atchison, Kansas – With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the Atchison community mourns the loss of Matthew Wood, who passed away on July 8, 2025, at the tender age of 10. Though his time with us was far too short, Matthew’s life was one filled with boundless love, laughter, and unforgettable moments that will be forever cherished by those who knew him.

Matthew was a bright and beautiful soul whose presence radiated warmth and light. With a smile that could brighten the darkest room and a heart overflowing with kindness, he touched countless lives in his short time on this earth. He approached life with a spirit of wonder, finding joy in the smallest things—from chasing butterflies and building forts to reading bedtime stories and playing with his favorite toys. His laughter was contagious, his imagination boundless, and his love for family and friends unwavering.

Though young, Matthew displayed a strength and resilience that inspired everyone around him. He faced life’s challenges with a bravery well beyond his years, never letting go of his infectious optimism and gentle nature. His days were filled with love—surrounded by parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, teachers, and a close-knit community who all adored him. He was the kind of child who left a lasting impression on everyone he met, simply by being himself.

To honor Matthew’s life and the joy he brought to others, a Rosary and Visitation will be held on July 14, 2025, at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison, followed by a Celebration of Life. The family invites all who knew Matthew or were touched by his story to join them in remembering a little boy whose light continues to shine, even in his absence.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Matthew’s name to the following organizations that were close to their hearts and instrumental in his journey:

  • Make-A-Wish Foundation – bringing hope and joy to children facing critical illnesses.
  • Children’s Mercy Hospital – where Matthew received compassionate, world-class care throughout his battle.

Though words will never fully capture the depth of our sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Matthew’s spirit lives on in the love he shared and the hearts he touched. His legacy is one of courage, sweetness, and the reminder that even the smallest among us can leave the greatest impact.

Matthew Wood, you were dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
May you rest in eternal peace, little one, surrounded by the angels, where pain and worry no longer exist—only peace, play, and endless light.

Forever remembered. Forever loved.
