Georgetown County, SC – A routine visit to a local convenience store turned violent today after a single gunshot was fired during an altercation, prompting swift action from law enforcement and resulting in an arrest.
Sheriff Carter Weaver announced this afternoon that a 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident at Joe’s Quick Mart, located at the intersection of South Fraser Street and Pennyroyal Road.
According to officials, deputies with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting gunfire at the store earlier in the day. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a single shot had been fired into the driver’s door of a vehicle parked near the gas pumps.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, informed deputies that the confrontation began after a dispute regarding a gasoline spill. During the argument, the suspect—identified as Harry Oxner, Jr.—allegedly retrieved a firearm and discharged one round into the side of the victim’s vehicle. Fortunately, the victim was not struck, and no injuries were reported.
Following a preliminary investigation, Oxner was taken into custody without incident. He has since been transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center, where he is currently being held pending the formal issuance of arrest warrants.
“This could have ended in tragedy,” Sheriff Weaver said in a statement. “Firing a weapon in a public space, particularly in response to a verbal dispute, is both reckless and criminal. We will pursue justice for the victim and ensure the safety of our community.”
Authorities have not released details on whether a firearm was recovered at the scene or if Oxner has a prior criminal record. The investigation remains ongoing.
Community members in the area expressed shock at the incident, noting that Joe’s Quick Mart is a typically quiet and well-trafficked location. Local officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or has additional information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that Oxner will face additional charges if further evidence supports the possibility of other offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm or reckless endangerment.
