DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC — A devastating tragedy unfolded in the early morning hours of July 1, 2025, when Deputy Devin Mason, 27, of the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed in the line of duty. The deadly encounter occurred around 1:30 a.m. at a home on Old Times Court, where deputies were attempting to apprehend a wanted individual.

According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Mason and a fellow deputy entered the residence to investigate the whereabouts of a wanted suspect, later identified as Cameron Ry Dennett, 25.
