CLEWISTON, FL — The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office has officially identified the suspect involved in the tragic shooting death of 27-year-old Anthony Darnell Steele, which occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Clewiston. Authorities are now searching for 29-year-old Darrius Jamar Treadwell, also of Clewiston, who is wanted for murder following what began as a physical altercation and escalated into fatal gunfire.
Timeline of the Incident
According to investigators, Steele and Treadwell became involved in a physical dispute at an undisclosed location in Clewiston. After the fight ended, Steele began walking away from the area. It was at that point, witnesses say, that Treadwell brandished a firearm and opened fire, striking Steele multiple times.
Emergency medical personnel quickly responded and transported Steele to a nearby medical facility. Tragically, despite the efforts of doctors and first responders, Anthony Steele succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
