Terrell Harris Ejected and Killed in I-83 Crash After Vehicle Slams Gate Near Weigh Station

Posted on August 25, 2025 by Usainsightreport

In the pre-dawn hours of Friday, August 22, 2025, a quiet stretch of Interstate 83 in York County, Pennsylvania, became the scene of a heartbreaking tragedy. The York County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 36-year-old Terrell D. Harris, a resident of York City, whose life was cut short in a violent single-vehicle crash that has left the community in mourning.

The incident unfolded around 2:15 a.m. near mile marker 34.2 in Newberry Township, a rural area where the hum of early-morning traffic is typically uninterrupted. Harris was driving southbound on I-83 when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of his vehicle. In a matter of seconds, the car veered off the highway, careening up an access ramp toward a truck weigh station. There, it collided with a metal gate near a dirt mound, the impact so severe that both Harris and his front-seat passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but for Harris, it was too late. Deputy York County Coroner Michelle Rau pronounced him dead at 3:05 a.m., his life extinguished by multiple blunt force injuries. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, survived the ordeal but was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries remains undisclosed, leaving a somber question mark hanging over their recovery.

The crash site, a weigh station typically used for routine truck inspections, became a scene of chaos and sorrow. Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation, piecing together the moments that led to the catastrophic loss of control. Was it a momentary lapse, a mechanical failure, or an external factor? The answers remain elusive as toxicology tests are pending, though the coroner’s office has confirmed that no autopsy will be performed.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over York County, where Interstate 83 serves as a vital artery connecting communities. For those who knew Terrell Harris, the news is a devastating blow. Described as a son of York City, Harris lived in the 300 block of East Princess Street, a neighborhood now grappling with the loss of one of its own. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping to bring clarity to a crash that has left more questions than answers.

The open road, often a symbol of freedom, can turn unforgiving in an instant. For Terrell D. Harris, that moment came far too soon, leaving behind a community to mourn and a passenger to heal. As the Pennsylvania State Police delve deeper, the hope is that understanding the cause of this tragedy might prevent another, ensuring that I-83 remains a path of connection, not loss.
