Tragedy in Ashland County: One Dead After Small Plane Crashes in Wooded Area Near Polk

On the evening of Monday, May 5, 2025, a tragic plane crash occurred near Polk in Ashland County, Ohio, resulting in the death of one individual. The incident involved a single-engine aircraft, specifically an Experimental Express 2000 FT model, which went down around 7:45 p.m. in a wooded area near State Route 89 and Township Road 902 in Jackson Township .

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) received multiple calls reporting a plane in distress shortly before the crash. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the pilot trapped inside the wreckage. As of 9:30 p.m., the pilot remained trapped, and authorities presumed the individual deceased . The identity of the pilot has not been released pending notification of next of kin

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into the crash. While the OSHP could not confirm if weather played a role, there were thunderstorms reported in Northeast Ohio around the time of the incident .

Local authorities, including the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, continue to work at the scene. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
