COLUMBUS, Ohio — A devastating shooting incident in northeast Columbus has left one young woman dead and another injured, sparking grief and concern throughout the community.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the shooting occurred around 9:39 p.m. on Wednesday night in the 2500 block of Mock Road, near the Mock Park area. What began as a quiet evening turned into a scene of chaos and heartbreak when gunfire erupted, targeting a vehicle occupied by two women and three others, including two juveniles.
Despite their injuries, the victims managed to flee the scene in the vehicle, driving nearly two miles northwest before stopping at the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Joyce Avenue. It was there that police and emergency responders located them and began immediate aid.
Tragically, 18-year-old Au’jai Davenport sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Grant Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m. The second woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was also taken to a local hospital. Authorities say she is expected to survive her injuries.
The three additional occupants of the vehicle—including the two juveniles—were physically unharmed but likely traumatized by the event. Investigators have not yet released any information regarding suspects or a potential motive behind the shooting. The incident has heightened concerns about safety and gun violence in Columbus neighborhoods, especially in the northeast area.
